Earn More. Work Less

That is my vision for you

Bognar-5030

No one in grad school taught you how to

Build your Business.

You’re here, you’re ready, you know your approach. You got 3000 supervised hours. You’re waist-deep in student loan debt, and you really thought you’d be seeing a full caseload right now.

What are you doing in the meantime? Are you twiddling your thumbs? Taking insurance and making what feels like the least money possible with the most hoops to jump through? Staring at the phone and praying it will ring? You’re officially a licensed helper- where are the people who need help?

Who's helping you?

Who's helping you?

You thought a career as a therapist would afford you an easy and satisfying life

where you’d be your own boss and make your own schedule- but somehow the vacations you wanted to take keep getting pushed back, and your schedule still doesn’t permit you to spend time with your family (even though you’re the one who writes it!). You look around you and you see people killing it in their private practice.

What do they know that you don’t know?

Is the idea of a lucrative private practice a myth?

When you were signing up for school, did you think that at the end of the rigor of getting licensed, THEN you’d have to learn how to own and run a business and build your own caseload?

Are you discouraged? Resentful? Are you tired of hearing other people’s success stories- and maybe growing irritated by the constant flow of people calling and asking you to slide, as though you don’t have your own bills to pay?

So you sign up for a course. You rewrite your Psychology Today profile for the 90th time. You buy a book. You volunteer at your local CAMFT chapter. Each of those things is fine, but you’re not seeing the numbers you want to see. The phone isn’t ringing, and every time a client feels better and finishes working with you, it’s bittersweet because it means you have another slot you have to fill.

You listen to others talking, and try to glean information from them. How did they do it? How are they so established? Is it some certification they have? No matter how much you listen, you can’t quite seem to pick it up, and… you’re alone. You feel all by yourself in a business where we really don’t talk about our struggles and failures.

You feel all by yourself in a business where we really don’t talk about our struggles and failures.

You’ve tried it all, and you feel stuck and alone.

What is the secret that everyone else seems to know that you don’t?

I’ve been exactly where you are.

I saw my friends building their practices, filling their caseloads, making meaningful connections, doing good work, and making money. I thought, “What is the matter with me? I’m as smart as anyone. Why is this door closed to me?

"What is the secret?”

I figured it out, and the truth is that it’s not a secret. There are distinct, concrete things you can do to spark interest in your business, and build your referrals.

No one is keeping it a secret- BUT, the people who figure it out (or get taught) don’t stick around to explain it to others. They go about their lives, enjoying their fulfilling work and their rewarding incomes, and they don’t sit around at CAMFT meetings hoping something will change for them.

It took me a while, but I figured it out, and now my practice is crushing it.

I work exclusively with clients I want to work with, and I happily refer business out to other people who are better fits than I am (and who have more time).

Like I said, it’s not a secret. The formula for building my practice was networking.

Now before you run away and cower, let me tell you more. I know what you’re imagining, and it sucks. My networking doesn’t suck. Truly. It’s actually a lot of fun, and it has provided me with a tremendously rewarding practice AND the joy of being surrounded by the very best clinicians in Southern California (and, frankly, all over the US).

What I figured out, after thinking about it for years (and reflecting on my past career in business), was that it’s all about relationships.

If you want the best practice, you have to build relationships with awesome people, and those people will help fill your practice (and you will help fill theirs!).

It’s not a secret.

I can tell you specifically how to do it- how to build relationships with the right people, how to build professional relationship skills, how to get over the fear of approaching others, ways to show the best side of yourself in professional settings, and everything else you need to know to become a highly in-demand therapist with a bustling practice, making the kind of money you want to make and seeing the kinds of clients you want to see.

Client Love

Working with Nick was one of the best decisions I’ve made. After starting my private practice, I was struggling with creating structure and systems around the business side of things. Nick helped me streamline my intake process, get more smooth with my initial consult calls, and work through my internal struggle of raising my fees and implementing my practice policies. He also helped me develop intention and purpose around networking, which has turned out to be my most powerful marketing tool. Now, I no longer feel stressed about my business and can show up more fully and confidently with my clients, as well as in other areas of my life. Nick’s smart guidance, unconditional support, and actionable steps were just what I needed to level up in my practice!

Djuna Osborne, LCSW

I have experienced his talent first hand at helping break down your goals into tangible steps. I know to work with Nick means you are going to succeed. He is the perfect team mate with his wise mind, quick-wit, and courageous heart in helping you make the goals for your business a reality.

Like the successful people I mentioned above,

I don’t have a lot of extra time to teach other people. I have a full caseload of clients that I very much enjoy, and so the extra time that I do business coaching is reserved for people who are really serious about it.

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you making enough money?

Are you seeing enough clients, and are they the right clients for you?

Do you have your dream practice?

If the answer to any of these questions is “no”, and that really bugs you, we should talk.

A little bit more about me

I built the practice of my dreams- I have a permissive schedule, I spend time with my loved ones, and I have time and money to give back to my community. Being a therapist is a blast; I get to care for other people, and I get to care for myself, too.

This could be your life, too.

If you want to experience this kind of joy in your work, I can show you how to get there. If you want to do your best work, seeing clients that you’re well-matched with, and make enough money to feel at ease (and take some vacations?)

I can show you how to get there.
